For the past twelve years I have had the privilege and honor to serve on the Eden Prairie School Board. I am asking for your continued support in order to serve the community and continue the legacy of excellence in education for the Eden Prairie School District. I have learned from my experience as a board member, parent, community volunteer and my service in other education related organizations such as the Minnesota School Boards Association and the Association of Metropolitan School Districts. I understand my role in regards to fiscal responsibility and the importance of being accountable for student results. I recognize and value the partnerships of parents, teachers, students and community in educating all children. Listening and understanding all perspectives is very important to my decision making process.

The Eden Prairie community values education and recognizes that strong schools make a strong community. Eden Prairie Schools is a well-run district because of a very dedicated staff who cares about children. Given the increased expectations of our students in an increasingly competitive world, we have a responsibility to provide an education that will meet the future needs of our students and society. I am committed to continue my advocacy for strong public schools.

I am committed to continue my advocacy for strong public schools. I believe:

• Parent involvement is critical to student achievement and strong schools. Eden Prairie is fortunate to have dedicated supportive parents.

• Excellent teachers and support staff make the learning environment safe and conducive to high educational standards. Eden Prairie Schools has a reputation of having high quality teachers, staff and programs.

• Early childhood education prepares children to embark on their school years. The Eden Prairie Family Center offers young learners a nurturing environment in which to test their wings. The Family Center offers parents the opportunity to build on their parenting skills.

• Lifelong learning benefits everyone. Community Education classes offer learners of all ages a wide range of classes in which to expand horizons.

• The ability of our schools to educate our children is impacted by decisions made at the state and federal levels of government. I am knowledgeable on these issues and strive to represent Eden Prairie Schools' at all these levels.

• Changing demographics and unstable state funding formulas present enormous financial pressures on our budget. New and creative ways for funding must be investigated.

• Strong partnerships with the business community are mutually beneficial and create trust, accountability and continued support.

• A healthy school community is built on communications that serve all who are involved and builds trust in information. I am active in the community and in the schools and I am aware of the variety of viewpoints that exist. What is best for students should always come first when decisions are being made.

• An effective School Board member represents the community at large in a fair and respectful manner. A member must work hard to be well informed about all issues.
